 launched late last year and at the time, the Redmond-based company 
promised to provide battery-extending Power Covers in the 
not-too-distant future. That time is now upon us as Microsoft has 
revealed the new Power Covers will arrive later this month.<br />

Microsoft made the announcement via <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">Twitter</a> and also opened up pre-orders. According to a post on ZDNet
 (which claims the tech specs on Micro<a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">soft’s</a> page are incorrect), the 
Power Cover weighs in at 1.2 pounds and is double the thickness of the 
listed 9.75mm – so, 19.5mm.<br />

That’s a lot of extra weight and girth but according to the company, 
the cover will extend battery life by up to <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">70 percent</a>. That’s better 
than the 50 percent claims the company made when the tablets launched 
and could certainly make a difference in terms of productivity for road 
warriors or those that frequently take long flights.<br />

The Power Covers will be available in the <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">US</a>, <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">Canada </a>and <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">Japan</a> starting
 March 19 for $199.99. That may sound like a lot of coin for added 
battery capacity but it is worth pointing out that the covers also 
include a Type-style keyboard. If you happen to need a physical keyboard
 as well, you could essentially kill two birds with one stone here.<br />

A spokesperson for Microsoft did not <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-surface-power-cover-extends.html" target="_blank">confirm </a>when or if the covers would make their way to other regions.

As <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">Google</a> prepares for the future with its mobile deep linking program,
 the company is also going ahead with Android OS for wearables. At the 
SXSW conference over the weekend, <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">Sundar Pichai</a>, who oversees Android, 
Chrome and Google Apps for the company, said Google would be <a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" target="_blank">releasing an Android SDK</a> for wearable developers by the end of the month.

While Google is rumored
 to have its own Nexus-branded smartwatch on the way, possibly by the 
time <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">Google</a> I/O kicks off in June (if not earlier), the SDK is designed 
for use with other <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">smartwatch </a>makers using the wearable focused Android 
OS.<br />

Using an Android powered smart jacket as an example, Pichai also said 
at <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">SXSW</a> that its wearable Android <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">SDK</a> is not just for smartwatches but 
for wearables of all sorts. He said the company is releasing the 
developer kit well ahead of hardware release dates in order for Google 
to fine tune the system. Many have suggested this could be as much for 
developers of other wearable devices at it is a beta run for Google's 
own smartwatch technology.<br />

Beyond that, Pichai also mentioned some interesting <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/google-to-launch-android-sdk-for.html" target="_blank">developments</a> that could be on the horizon for the recently acquired Nest Labs.
 Google is is thinking about some kind software "mesh layer" over the 
existing system that will better allow its various devices to

The next big thing in music is here according to Samsung. The company on Friday <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/samsung-launches-milk-music-with.html" target="_blank">announced</a> a new streaming music service called <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/samsung-launches-milk-music-with.html" target="_blank">Milk</a>. It’s a bit unique in that it is free to download, free to use (no ads) and doesn’t require users to log in.<br />

Samsung worked with Slacker to develop the service which launches with 
some 200 radio stations and 13 million songs on tap. It uses a circular 
dial similar to classic analog radio dials. Simply slide your finger 
around the dial to “tune in” to various genres of music. If you find a 
channel that you like, you can then run your finger along the inside of 
the dial to select different channels within the genre.<br />

The user interface was <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/samsung-launches-milk-music-with.html" target="_blank">designed </a>to be easy to use – something that’s 
apparently a problem with other services. Samsung’s Ryan Bidan said 
there is a group of consumers that haven’t engaged yet in mobile music 
because current services are too hard to understand and people don’t 
like advertising while consumers that have taken the<a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/samsung-launches-milk-music-with.html" target="_blank"> plunge</a> have been 
dissatisfied with the experience thus far.<br />

The service will initially be available for the Galaxy S III and S4, 
the Galaxy Note II and Note 3, the Galaxy Mega, the Galaxy S4 Mini and 
will be ready for the Galaxy S5 when it launches on April 11. It’s

 is an Allwinner A31s ARM Cortex A7 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 
16GB of flash storage and a microSD card slot should that not be enough.<br />

The HP 8 also features 802.11 b/g/n wireless that is <a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/hp-launches-8-inch-android-tablet.html" target="_blank">compatible </a>with 
Miracast, a headphone jack, stereo speakers and a 3,800mAh battery good 
for up to seven hours. A 2-megapixel camera is mated to the rear while a
 0.3-megapixel front-facing shooter handles selfies and video calls.<br />

The tablet weighs 0.69 pounds and measures 200.3 x 136.3 x 7.95 mm with
 a silver finish. It also arrives with 25GB of free cloud storage and 
ships free of charge in the US.<br />

Microsoft won't be officially releasing Windows 8.1 Update 1 until 
after their BUILD conference in April, but late on Thursday the company 
accidentally leaked the update to the public. Eager users were able to 
make a small registry change that made the updates show up in Windows 
Update, or download it all through<a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-leaks-windows-81-update-early.html" target="_blank"> </a><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" target="_blank">direct links</a> to Microsoft's servers.<br />

The overall process to install Update 1 required the download of six 
separate updates totaling roughly 770 MB. Some users who downloaded and 
installed Update 1<a href="http://askneed.blogspot.com/2014/03/microsoft-leaks-windows-81-update-early.html" target="_blank"> </a><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" target="_blank">said</a>
 the final build string matched what was reported to be the RTM build, 
suggesting Microsoft was testing methods of delivering the update before

It only took a few hours for Microsoft to block public access to the 
files both through the download links and registry edits, however the 
files are still available through several other sources. While it 
shouldn't be too hard to find, download and install the update, if 
you're interested in checking out the changes, we recommend waiting for 
Update 1 to go live officially.<br />
